Perforatorium of Ivo Dimchev
Of the most progressive aspects in Bulgaria is certainly the performing arts. The Perforatorium of Ivo Dimchev with the young performers of Alma Alter Theatre Laboratory bluntly describes the alternative needs and desires of the new bulgarian theatre in both its form and content.
All aspects are delivered at such a turbulent rhythm that it is impossible to know what will happen next, as is often the case with performances by Ivo Dimchev. It is the mixture of everyday human relations and extreme physical actions that allows the viewer to remain close to the players as they proceed though cycles of emotion.
In taking on a challenge of mixing physical performance and text, this work provides new solutions and breaks theatrical convention in dramatic ways. The uniform costumes of army green shirts, red bathing caps and black pants are a visual link to an underlying theme of genetic science and reproduction and serve to link the performers as a family. Inside this motif, all players retain their individual personalities and within the choreography each performer takes on the opportunity to present a unique moment to the audience.
